Are you a Homebrewer? Have your mates told you that your beers are great and you should open your own brewery? Do you just enjoy making beer and want to put your homebrew skills to the test? Well this competition is for you! It doesn't matter if you've done one homebrew or have been doing it for the last 40 years, we want to taste your beer.

Judging will take place on Saturday 24th August at our Open Taproom from 12pm. There will be 2 rounds of judging with judges who have varying beer knowledge. We should be finished around 4pm.

We will give one lucky winner the chance to brew their recipe on our kit and see their beer go in to the wild. This competition is about looking at your recipe and ensuring it is commercially viable, thinking about branding and all the other things you need to consider when you are a commercial brewer.

  • Winner

    • Brew your beer on our kit and it gets released as one of our specials

    • Special launch event at a venue TBC

    • £5 of each cask sale to a charity of your choice

    • Your name on the pump clip crediting you for the recipe

    • Lots of social media and press kudos!

    • A chance to get rated on Untappd (this will inevitably drive you mad)

    • 12 month membership to GeeGee's Gang

  • 2nd Prize

    • 25 kg sack of Best Ale malt
    • 12 month membership to GeeGee's Gang

  • Each brewer must supply 4 x unlabelled bottles (500ml preferably but we can cope with 330ml)

  • Brewer must take into consideration

    • The Nomadic Beers Brand and the style of our beer repertoire – for example we don’t make “fad” beers such as milkshake IPAs and we do not have the amenities to brew lagers or sour beers.

    • Our focus is cask ale – make sure the style will work well in cask. This doesn't mean it has to be a traditional style. So many modern beers also work in cask!

    • We are predominantly a vegan brewery.

    • Cost of brewing the beer - we are a business and need to be able to pay the bills and staff. To be commercially viable, your homebrew must cost no more than £22 for malts and hops in a 30L batch, plus no more than £2 on adjuncts (fruit, etc).

    • Anything above 7.1% is costly in Duty...

  • A copy of the recipe will need to be held by Nomadic Beers due to rules made by HMRC about Duty and traceability. We will not brew the recipe without your consent.
